Don't listen to the Mammogram HYPE!

Breast Cancer is still the highest cancer killer of woman in the United States.  In this article they are saying new studies show that woman should only get mammograms between the ages of 50-79 because thats when Breast Cancer can be detected.  They are also recommending that women get mammograms every two years instead of annually.  I find it rather ironic and funny that this news comes out after Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October just to shed light and get the media stiring.  I think they accomplished that goal.  However, we need to look at the major issue.  Will health insurance pay for mammograms for women between the ages of 40-49? More so, will health insurance cover the cost for mammograms for high risk patients eg. have history of cancer in family?

"All we are saying is, at age 40, a woman should make an appointment with her doctor and have a conversation about the benefits and harms of having a mammography now versus waiting to age 50," said Dr. Diana Petitti, vice chair of the task force.
While roughly 15 percent of women in their 40s detect breast cancer through mammography, many other women experience false positives, anxiety, and unnecessary biopsies as a result of the test, according to data.
Don't listen to the Mammogram HYPE!!! Go get your test annually to ensure you are cancer free.

Keep the Faith,

Until next time,
