I went natural to have healthy hair. Period. However, I thought I would experience some growth along the way. My hair hasn't grown much at all maybe 2 inches since I've gone natural and I will be 2 years fully natural in April 2010. So, many thoughts have run through my head. Should I do a BC all over again, should I cut it down shorter, should I get braids or twist extensions, should I finally loc my hair, and I even ran the idea in my head of relaxing my hair again. Yes, I know it was that bad. I was completely frustrated with my hair. Then I went on youtube for some inspiration and came across this video.
@ErinScandalous at www.scandalousbeauty.com/blog posted this video in April 2009 and when I viewed this video it was right on time. It gets frustrating not seeing growth when you know you have healthy hair techniques and care. ErinScandalous now has beautiful locs as a result of doing mini twists and keeping them in longer than normal. I went back and looked at her past videos and her hair texture is very similar to my texture. My goal for going natural was to achieve healthy hair, grow a BA fro, and to eventually loc. So, I am going to begin my loc journey as soon as I find a loctition in Houston. I know Uncle Funky's Daughter is there and I may check them out for a consultation. I used to want Sister locs but I think regular locs will work fine with my hair texture.
In 2003 I transitioned from high school to college with a short relaxed cut. In 2007 in college I transitioned from relaxed to natural. Now, it is 2010 a new decade and I am in another transition period again from college to the working world. I believe its time for a change. Time to LOC it up (pun intended). I am excited about this new journey and I finger coiled my hair to wear to work for the rest of the week to see the reaction of my co workers :)

In 2003 I cut my hair off before transitioning from high school to college.
I began to grow my hair back out in 2005
By 2006 my hair had reached its length it was in high school and it started to break from color damage.
This is a picture of my last relaxer in April 2007. After bad breakage I decided to go natural.
I transitioned with braids, kinky twists, and senegalese twists til April 2008 (see picture above after BC) when I cut off the rest of my relaxed ends.
January 2010 Finger Coils
My temple is a loose 3c hair texture compared to my 4a/4b rest of my hair. This is if you understand
hair types I think they are very relative, but you get my point.
I will be posting more details of my loc process and when I finally go to the loctition and get them installed. I'm pretty stoked about locing, although I will probably miss my fro. Don't believe the hype locs can be combed out and I may one day choose to comb them out, but until then LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN!
Keep the Faith!
Until next time, ~E
