I was experiencing servere breakage and I was torn to either cut my hair short again (I did this in 2003 during my senior year of high school) or go natural. After that wedding I decided offically to start to go natural because I wanted healthy strong, long beautiful hair. So, I began my transition, my last relaxer or perm was April 2007 and I transitioned for about a year until April 2008 when I cut the rest of my relaxer ends off from my natural hair. During that year I kept wearing micro braids, kinky twists, and cornrolls. Between each new set of braids I went to get at least 1'' or 2'' of my relaxed hair cut off to continue growth plus having two different textures isn't fun. Also, during that year I began to look at youtube videos of the natural community up there and fotki.com/emickeyf171 check me out and was inspired by many natural sistahs to continue on this journey of healthy hair. My ultimate goal for going natural was to achieve healthy hair. I am still on that journey but now its more of becoming more healthy in all aspects of my life. I am learning to eat more healthy, more organic, and drink more water. All of these things go hand in hand when trying to achieve healthy hair. I also have been taking a hair, skin, and nails vitamin that also will strengthen and grow your hair faster. I am a product junkie and I have tried alot of different products (one reason why my hair isn't growing as fast as it should) and I know what works for my hair and what doesn't. I don't really know my hair type it is a 4a and a 3c in some places. It really doesn't matter what your hair type is just finding the right products that work for you is the key. So, begin a product junkie is not a bad thing in the beginning but you should know your staple products after a few months. I have a passion for natural hair and natural products so please stay tuned with many more posts to come and some recipes for many of my own products.
Keep the Faith!
Until next time,
~E
