Last month, I wrote a list of questions that I wanted to ask the doctor during my annual checkup/pre-conception doctor visit. I went to the doctor and we talked extensively about plans when I get pregnant. One of my goals for 2014 was to conceive this year. All of my questions were answered and I even asked more than I listed in my original post. All in all, my husband and I were given the green light to begin trying to conceive. The doctor assured me I had no problems conceiving and that I should try when my husband and I both agree we are ready for the journey. There was nothing physically keeping me from having healthy children. The doctor and I decided that once we do conceive we will have bi-weekly checkups with him and the high risk specialist downtown. We will plan for a scheduled caesarean section around 38-39 weeks. We will do more ultrasounds, and complete more genetic testing. We will be more cautious, but most importantly we will have more faith that God will let us keep this baby with us here on earth.
Below are the answers to the questions I asked the doctor during my check-up. I’m excited to let the baby making commence. I’m a little leery of conceiving in February or March because that would mean I would be due around the time BJ was born Nov 29 and when BJ and Brielle were due Dec 1 and Dec 11. I almost want to wait until the summer to begins, because being pregnant during the summer time is no fun. However, I do know that God is in control and whenever we conceive and get a positive pregnancy test that is when our test of faith begins.
1. Do I have low progesterone levels? Will I have to get shots when I get pregnant? No. No.
2. Am I healthy enough to carry a baby full term without complications? Do I have hbp issues? Yes. Blood Pressure will continue to be monitored throughout the pregnancy, but as of now no HBP issues exist.
3. Do I need to lose more weight? Losing weight will help but only if it’s done in a controlled manner. Nothing is physically limiting you from having children.
4. I haven't stopped taking prenatal vitamins is this okay? This is awesome. This helps your chances of conceiving more quickly.
5. Should I use an ovulation test to better predict getting pregnant? Will I have trouble getting pregnant? No, you will not have trouble getting pregnant. Your cycle is very regular if you have sex on cycle days 13-15 you have a higher chance of conceiving.
6. Can you refer me to a high risk specialized OB/GYN when I get pregnant? Yes, we will work closely with the OB/GYN downtown when you get pregnant to assure you are receiving the adequate pre-natal care.
7. When I get pregnant will I be sent for more frequent ultrasounds? Will my prenatal visits be scheduled at more frequent intervals? Will my delivery be handled in a different manner? Different hospital? We will discuss this more in detail when you do become pregnant, but yes we have many options.
8. Will I have to get a cerclage? When 12-14 weeks? Will I end up on bed rest? How long will I be on bed rest? No, No. Your cervical incompetence was due to an infection in your placenta, which we don’t know what caused it. If you truly had cervical incompetence you would have loss your first pregnancy which ended up going to 39 weeks.
9. Do I need additional genetic testing? No.
10. Is one loss related to the other? No. Neither loss is related, but we will be more cautious and plan a scheduled caesarean section when you become pregnant again.
Keep the Faith!
Until next time,
~E
